Please post feedback on TD4R4 here.

If you encounter problems which did already exist in a previous release and which have not been fixed by TD4R4 - please post them again!

Make sure to include the following informations when posting bugs/problems:
Operating System (Win2k, WinXP, Vista,...)
Operating System + CPU Architecture (32bit, 64bit)
Installed Services Packs (Sp1, Sp2, ...)
User Account Priviledges (Normal User, Admin User,...)
If you can try to include debug logs, SharpConsole logs and screenshots!

hi there,

i just stumpled upon SharpE a few days ago and decided to try TD4R4 today.

i use win xp pro sp1 de (32 bit) on an athlon 64-fx 51 with 2 gb of ram, logged in as administrator.

the problem is - i cant open anything when starting windows normally, nothing will work - not the buttons on the desktop nor the run dialogue or start menu, nothing. i couldnt even run the setshell.exe, so i quickly went into safe mode - and there, everything worked. also, i didnt have all the stuff on the bottom (system tray and all that) but only the things on top in normal mode; then again, in safe mode, everything was there. the multi-monitor mode i use also worked fine in safe mode (as well as in normal mode).

so, i guess it has to do something with 'some thing' i have installed and isnt due to service pack 1 (i first suspected that)... im not sure what that could be, as multi-monitor mode worked fine in safe mode, and my virus scanner (ESET NOD32) is set to raise an alert on any suspicious activity and require user input, not just block stuff - which did not happen. hmmm.

shame, SharpE looked so fine in safe mode! :-/

edit: oh, another thing... what will happen if you just erase the SharpE dir without setting the shell to explorer before? like, using a different OS? just 'in case'...

hm strange thing,
check the task manager and see if SharpCore is running, try to restart it (kill it and start by hand).

can't you even start things like setshell.exe from explorer? (file manager)

If you just remove the directory the explorer shell _should_ start up next time you login... (at least I think so... )

well, its not possible to even access the task manager - no matter what i do, nothing will get executed and no windows will open (i tried control panel, i tried to run commands, i tried the start menu, i tried the 'my computer', etc. - i basically tried everything)...

weird. my windows is installed in the default dir btw, so %windir% is C:\windows.

some people reported multi-monitor problems, i saw, but still... can that be the cause if it works fine in safe mode? not sure, as the graphics are in a 'compatibility mode', too, when entering safe mode...

i think some process i am running in normal mode is keeping some part of the SharpE shell to start up properly - as i said, i am missing the system tray and other stuff as well when in normal mode...

That's very strange.
The Task Manager should always work.

Well what you can try to do is start to set the shell back to explorer. Login in normal mode and then try to start SharpE components one by one. (not the whole shell by logging out). First try to start SharpDesk and see if everything is fine. Then try to start SharpShellService.exe. Then try SharpCore.exe... If it acts up after starting core then go into SharpCenter (before starting it ) and disable most of the services (try to find the one which is causing it).

This is a really crazy bug,
I can't explain at all why SharpE would do it

[Edit]
something really easy and helpfull you could do is just try out another shell!
Like emerge (http:// www.emergedesktop.org/). This would make it a lot easier to narrow the problem down to shell or software problem

You guys are doing an awesome job, and SharpE rocks, so I'm sorry to post this - I know you guys already have enough ideas, suggestions, and bugs to take care of - but here goes:

Suggestions:
1) Add a default "Win+E" (open Explorer) hotkey (command "explorer /e,d:\" top default to d: - not sure how to default to "My Computer")

2) Add a default "Win+D" (show desktop) hotkey (same as "Minimize all windows" - not sure how to manually create this hotkey?)

3) Add a default "Win+Pause" (Device Manager) hotkey (command "sysdm.cpl")

4) Allow users to remove "Minimize All Windows" and "Restore All Windows" (some of us REAL minimalists) :P

Bugs:
1) Mini Scmd doesn't always give focus to "cmd.exe" when run

2) Menus that contain "special" folder paths don't show icons but work fine when clicked etc (eg: "{#StartMenuDir#} \Programs")

3) Right clicking on "My Network Places" and selecting "Properties" (in Explorer's folder list) displays an error "Windows cannot find '(null)'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search."

4) Although the mouse pointer is prevented from moving over TopBar when dragging a window (preventing you from putting anything on top of it, I presume), you can still get some of the window of TopBar by using the bottom part of the title bar to drag (I'm using Windows's "Classic" theme)

5) Selecting "Configuration", and then "Services" from the SharpE menu doesn't work - debug output says:
08:01:33 26/05/08 : Exec Service: Original: !ToggleServiceManager
08: 01:33 26/05/08 : Exec Service: Passed Execution Text: !ToggleServiceManager
08: 01:33 26/05/08 : Exec Service: Attempting to execute with Create Process
08:01:33 26/05/08 : Exec Service: Unable to execute using CreateProcess. Continue with execution.
08:01:33 26/05/08 : Exec Service: ExecuteType: Last ShellOpenFile:
08:01:33 26/05/08 : Exec Service: FileName: !ToggleServiceManager
08: 01:33 26/05/08 : Exec Service: Params:
08:01:33 26/05/08 : Exec Service: dir:
08:01:33 26/05/08 : Exec Service: The specified file was not found.

6) When deleting a hotkey, the confirmation message box's title, and "cancel" button, are not in english:
---------------- -----------
Bestätigen
-- -------------------------
Are you sure you want to delete: HOTKEY_NAME?
------------ ---------------
OK Abbrechen
------------------------ ---

6) Right clicking on a folder, in Explorer, and selecting "Search" doesn't work (does the same as bug 3, above)
